This is a series of black & white panoramic photographs taken from the top of double-decker buses as they make there way along some of London’s many and varied high streets. These are very much ‘grab’ shots sometimes taken whilst the bus is moving. The project developed out of a commission I did for Brent Council in the Spring of 2005.
I’ve often found it difficult to get interesting photographs of high
streets, but became excited by the pictorial possibilities offered by the
combination of an elevated viewpoint in the middle of the road and the 140
degree horizontal angle of view of the swing-lens panoramic camera. I prefer
black & white for these shots because there is no possibility of controlling
the colours included in such a wide sweep.
