THE NORTH LONDON LINE

The North London Line runs from Richmond in the west to North Woolwich in the east. Both places are on the River Thames, but the contrast between them couldn’t be much greater. En route the railway passes through the leafy suburbs of North West London, tunnels under Hampstead Heath, snakes through Kentish Town and on to Camden, then runs through Highbury & Islington, Dalston and Hackney to Stratford where it dips south towards Docklands.

This project isn’t about the railway itself, though, rather the route simply provides a structure for a series of landscape photographs aimed at capturing something of the individuality and flavour of the different places the line passes through. To keep things simple, I decided to include just one photograph from each place and this had be taken within a 20 minute walking distance of the station. There are 28 stations on the line in total.
